"It was pleasant working with Matt. We worked on specific problems I was struggling with. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend it to any student who needs help."

What we have written about Camosun.
Free guides on the courses and decisions Camosun students ask us about most.
The engineering bridge.
A lot of the Camosun students we work with are heading to UVic, and the transfer is where the maths gets unforgiving: the courses that transfer cleanly, the grades you need, and the gap in rigour between the two institutions all matter.
We tutor the courses on both sides of that bridge, so we see exactly where students arrive underprepared. If you are already at UVic, see our UVic tutoring page.
What students say.
"Been looking for a tutor and this just feels right. Not only tutors but resources that keep you going, too! As an engineering student, they are very helpful. Totally worth it!!"
"My daughter is in first year engineering and was struggling with matrix algebra. On her behalf, I contacted Heywood Academies. Matt got back to me right away and set my daughter up with an excellent, friendly tutor and her marks have improved significantly. Thanks to Heywood Academies, both my and my daughter’s stress levels have come down."
"Super easy to communicate and schedule with, and the tutoring really helped with the final push through Physics 11."
"I started tutoring with Matt because I was struggling with my first year Physics and Calculus courses at UVic. I had tried a couple of other tutors before Matt, but Matt was by far the most patient and intelligent. He ended up getting me through all of my Calculus levels and Matrix Algebra. I cannot recommend him enough."
Where we meet, and what it costs.
Interurban sits near View Royal and Saanich, Lansdowne is in Victoria proper, and we tutor in person across both. Sessions can be on campus, at a library, at a coffee shop, or at home. Online over Zoom costs less and works just as well.
Rates
- $70 per 50-minute session online
- $95 per 50-minute session in person
- Prepaid 8 sessions: $520 online or $720 in person, a $40 saving
Prepaid hours never expire and are refundable, less a $35 administration fee.
Some students qualify for provincial funding. We covered it in this guide to StudentAid BC and tutoring. Camosun also runs free drop-in help on campus, which is worth trying before you pay anyone.
Questions from Camosun students.
Do you tutor upgrading and college prep courses?
Yes. PHYS 070 and 090, MATH 107, and the upgrading math stream are all courses we work on regularly. A lot of students come to us at exactly that stage, and it is often where the biggest gains are.
Can you help with second-year MENG courses?
Yes. Strength of materials, thermodynamics, fluids and heat transfer, dynamics and machine design are all covered. Our founder is a mechanical engineering graduate and these are the courses he tutors most.
Which campus do you cover?
Both. Interurban and Lansdowne are both within our in-person area, and online sessions work regardless of campus.
I am transferring to UVic. Can you help me prepare?
Yes, and it is worth planning ahead. The step up in rigour catches people out, particularly in calculus and physics. We tutor the courses on both sides, so we know which gaps show up first.
Do you help with assignments?
We help you understand and work through problems. We do not complete graded work for you, which is set out in our terms.
