Private tutoring in math, science & engineering.
We match Victoria-area students with tutors who know their courses inside and out, from Grade 8 through UVic and Camosun. In person across Greater Victoria, or online anywhere in BC.
50-minute sessions. $70 online, $95 in person.
Understanding comes before grades.
Matt started Heywood Academies because he'd lived the problem himself, first as a student, then as an engineer who wanted to teach.
In engineering school, everything got harder. The workload was heavier, and getting good grades meant studying smarter, not just longer. He also noticed how much studying with friends helped. Quizzing each other before tests sharpened everyone's understanding, his own included.
The other piece was resources. Learning quickly takes a detailed formula sheet and a complete set of practice problems, not just a textbook. After a year working as an engineer, Matt started tutoring to pass that approach on.

How private tutoring works.
We match you with a tutor
Tell us the subject, level, and whether you'd rather meet in person or online, and we'll pair you with a tutor who has direct experience with that course.
You settle into a rhythm
Most students book weekly, more if they're behind, less once they're caught up. Every session ends with a copy of the notes.
Grade 8 through Grade 12.
Our tutors have deep backgrounds in the courses that matter most for post-secondary, math especially. Pick a subject to see what's covered, or browse the full high school tutoring page.
Camosun College & UVic, covered.
Multiple mechanical engineering tutors, trained at Camosun College and UVic, cover first-year general engineering and second-year mechanical courses: Heat Transfer, Statics, Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Dynamics, and Thermodynamics.
Struggling with calculus, linear algebra, or statistics? Get help with the specific problems you're stuck on, guidance on studying better, and extra practice.
A large share of our experience is here.
Looking at who we've worked with longest, almost all of them have ADHD, are on the autism spectrum, or have a learning disability such as dyslexia. Same tutor every session, same rates as the rest of this page.
