"It was pleasant working with Matt. We worked on specific problems I was struggling with. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend it to any student who needs help."

Coming from high school tutoring? The transition to college and university math and science courses is a big jump. We offer a few different ways to get support.
Online tutoring
Many students prefer to meet virtually, since it is convenient and cost-effective. Every tutor has a quiet office space, high-speed internet, a webcam and a microphone, plus a tablet to write and share on screen in real time. You get a PDF of the notes after every session, and sessions can be recorded on request.
In-person tutoring
We offer in-person tutoring around Camosun College and the University of Victoria, and can meet at the Camosun College Interurban library, the Camosun College Lansdowne library, or the University of Victoria library.
Individual tutoring
Private sessions are fully customized to each student. Tutors engage students by asking questions and working through problems together, rather than just handing over answers.
Group tutoring
Studying with a friend? Bring them along and everyone gets a discount:
- 30% off for groups of two
- 40% off for groups of three
- 50% off for groups of four
Five subjects, one team of tutors.
Our tutors are educated at Camosun College and the University of Victoria, covering 1st-year general engineering and 2nd-year mechanical engineering courses such as Heat Transfer, Statics, Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Dynamics and Thermodynamics, along with the math, statistics and physics courses that support them.
Or by school
Real topics from real courses.
Math
Foundations for calculus and linear algebra, for 1st and 2nd-year students: vectors, matrices, span, basis and linear independence, linear transformations, and orthogonality.
Calculus
Calculus takes lots of repetition, especially after time away from math class. We work through limits, derivatives, integrals, infinite series, differential equations, and multivariable calculus, with plenty of practice problems.
Statistics
Support for intro and applied statistics courses, from descriptive statistics and probability distributions through hypothesis testing and regression.
Physics
Solving lots of different word problems builds the skills that first and second-year physics courses demand: static equilibrium, Newton's second law, kinematics, momentum and impulse, work and energy, circular motion and gravitation, electric forces, optics, and modern physics.
Engineering
1st-year general engineering (engineering physics, engineering math, and statics) and 2nd-year mechanical engineering courses: Heat Transfer, Statics, Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Dynamics, and Thermodynamics.

What students say.
"Been looking for a tutor and this just feels right. Not only tutors but resources that keep you going, too! As an engineering student, they are very helpful. Totally worth it!!"
"My daughter is in first year engineering and was struggling with matrix algebra. On her behalf, I contacted Heywood Academies. Matt got back to me right away and set my daughter up with an excellent, friendly tutor and her marks have improved significantly. Thanks to Heywood Academies, both my and my daughter’s stress levels have come down."
"Super easy to communicate and schedule with, and the tutoring really helped with the final push through Physics 11."
"I started tutoring with Matt because I was struggling with my first year Physics and Calculus courses at UVic. I had tried a couple of other tutors before Matt, but Matt was by far the most patient and intelligent. He ended up getting me through all of my Calculus levels and Matrix Algebra. I cannot recommend him enough."
