What you need to know before applying.
What qualifications do I need to be a tutor?
To be a tutor, you need a strong understanding of the content you intend to help students with. To apply, you need to either be enrolled in or have completed post-secondary education related to math, science, or engineering. Good grades matter, we review your GPA during the application process. Communication matters just as much, tutors need to communicate clearly, stay patient, and be kind.
What courses do you help with?
We help with math, science, and engineering, for high school students in Grades 9 through 12, and for first-year college and university students.
What are the requirements for in-person tutoring?
In-person tutors need to live in one of our high-demand areas, the Greater Victoria area, Sooke, or Saanich, and have access to reliable transportation. Sessions usually take place in students' homes, coffee shops, or libraries, so a personal vehicle is necessary to get to each student.
What are the requirements for online tutoring?
Online tutors need a private workspace with high-speed internet and the right equipment, a computer, tablet, webcam, and microphone. Online tutors must be located in Canada.
Do I need experience to get a tutoring job?
No experience is required. We provide training materials and course materials to help you learn the content and how to be a good tutor. You should already have a strong base knowledge of the subject you want to tutor, the materials we provide are there so you can review before each session and walk in feeling confident.
Where do I find students as a tutor?
You don't have to, finding students is our job. We interview every student to make sure they're a good fit for our services, then connect them with a tutor once they're registered. From there, you take it from here.
